Yoni Blumberg
Class of 2013
Yoni Blumberg graduated magna cum laude from Carleton in 2013 with a degree in Political Science and International Relations. At Carleton, he focused on global development and sustainability, co-founded Students for a New Economy, served on the College Council and Budget Committee, and was awarded a Davis Projects for Peace grant to design a grassroots education initiative in Pakistan. He also spent summers doing research with WorldFish in Washington, D.C., and living in Rwanda through a social innovation fellowship. After graduation, Yoni joined the New Sector Alliance Residency in Social Enterprise, working at SaverLife (then EARN) to expand savings tools for low-income households. From there, he became the first Product Manager at Tala, a global startup expanding access to credit. At Tala, he helped scale the company from 500 customers to over 1.3 million, leading product launches in Tanzania, the Philippines, and India, and designing new tools to help people save and manage money. In 2018, he moved to St. Louis, where he deepened his focus on racial equity and civic leadership as a Coro Fellow, a policy fellow at Forward Through Ferguson, and an independent consultant. Since 2020, he has served in senior leadership roles at WEPOWER, where he works with Black and Latinx communities to build power and community wealth. His projects there have included launching an investment fund for local businesses, raising millions in grants and investments, and developing regional strategies for worker ownership and shared governance. Across these diverse roles, he has drawn on data wrangling, analysis, and presentation skills to identify insights, inform strategic decisions, and communicate effectively.

Jimmy Zhong
Class of 2023
Hi everyone! I’m Jimmy, Carleton College Class of 2023. I majored in Biology and Computer Science. I came to Carleton in 2019 fascinated by biological systems and drawn to studying them from a systems perspective. I added Computer Science because 1. the ability to analyzing complex datasets are increasingly essential across many fields (that's why I joined DataSquad!), and 2. it's easier to find a good-paying job if you have CS major on your resume. During my time at Carleton, I was part of DataSquad, where I worked on data projects for the campus community (mostly humanity? and tutoring for stats / data visualization classes). Beyond that, I spent a summer interning at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, where I learned about operating systems and parallel computing in the context of supercomputer clusters. The following summer, I conducted microbiome research at the Joslin Diabetes Center (under Harvard Medical School) through the Kolenkow-Reitz Fellowship. I also worked in Dr. Rika Anderson’s lab, exploring how genes—especially functional genes, and toxin–antitoxin systems—spread through transposases in deep-ocean microbes.. Currently, I’m a PhD student at Washington University in St. Louis, studying animal behavior and systems neuroscience. My research focuses on how the motor cortex enables the flexible and elegant movements of freely behaving mice. If you’d like to connect or learn more about my experiences, feel free to reach out at zhong.juntao.2019@ gmail.com.

Nina Sun
Class of 2023
Hi! I’m Nina, and I graduated with a major in Statistics and a minor in Digital Arts and Humanities. My college journey opened doors to a dynamic career in data, and I’m now a Senior Data Analyst at a Fortune 500 company. In my current role, I focus on data manipulation, visualization, and analysis to help drive strategic decisions. I also work with the latest technologies in Generative AI (GenAI), overseeing use case governance and developing solutions using Palantir Foundry. This blend of technical and strategic work keeps my days both challenging and rewarding. Looking back, joining the Data Squad was one of the best decisions I made as a student. It gave me hands-on experience with Scrum development, project management, and understanding real client needs—skills that are essential in the workplace. These experiences not only prepared me for job interviews but also gave me confidence when facing real-world challenges. If you’re just starting out, my advice is to get involved in projects and organizations that you enjoy working with. Every experience helps shape your unique story and makes you stand out to future employers. The possibilities after graduation are vast, and your journey is just beginning!

Mitchell Wang
Class of 2022
Hi I'm Mitchell and I love challenges. As an adventurer who is passionate to explore different academic subjects and career fields, I find nothing more exciting than staring at my notebook or computer screen trying to figure out the most efficient way to solve problems. From being an equity analyst intern to a pharmaceutical industry consulting intern and then to a warehouse operations intern, my curiosity to learn new things never ends. With a liberal arts background, I have the necessary skills and abilities to adapt to new environments and learn quickly, which enable me to reach my full potential. In my undergraduate study, I take a variety of courses from Astronomy to Japanese to Religion Studies. Meanwhile, my programming and analytical skills developed through being a Computer Science and Statistics major also enable me to have strong hard skills at my disposal. I also love to find new adventures in my personal life. I love traveling, sports, and music. Feel free to reach out.

After graduating from Carleton with a major in Mathematics/Statistics, I worked as a Data & Policy Analyst for a consulting firm on analyzing Medicare data to inform FDA post-market vaccine safety surveillance and policy evaluation. After two years of working, I decided to pursue a MS in Biostatistics at UNC Chapel Hill followed by a PhD in Epidemiology also at UNC. Now at UNC, I am focused on pharmacoepidemiology, which evaluates the safety and effectiveness of medical products and interventions. I am also a fellow in the Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) group at Bristol Myers Squibb, a pharmaceutical company, focusing on oncology and hematology products. I am hoping to work in pharma or consulting post-PhD graduation in HEOR or Real-World Evidence functions.

Dave Nguyen
Class of 2025
Hi everyone, I'm Dave Nguyen, currently a SWE at Microsoft, living in New York City. Besides working, I also worked as a mentor/teacher for OlaClass, a program to help students find job opportunities in Big Tech. I also built WeShare, a group cashback app with 50k+ users. It is such crazy that it has already been 4 years since I joined DataSquad. 4 years ago, when I joined DataSquad, I didn't know Git, ReactJS, or have built any full-stack application. But by joining projects, working with teammates, and talking with Paula weekly to solve new problems, I learn a lot, which helped me land an internship at Amazon, Microsoft. In the future, I want to keep building projects, helping more students to find job opportunities, and passion in tech!

(As you can see, I also have a knack for writing incredibly long sentences.) I'm looking forward to bringing my scattered knowledge and experience to the DataSquad as well as a (hopefully) different perspective on things!
